When I started this blog, I thought I was only a few days away from starting a new adventure in China. I thought I’d have tons of new experiences and adventures and never worried about not having something to write about. Obviously, life, and the coronavirus, had different plans.
While I watch and wait for any signs that Chinese schools are opening again, I sit at home and teach class after class online. This week had its usual blend of good and bad students. I had my first rude student, but he was really just bored and wanted class to be over faster. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t get to leave class any earlier and got to do more work than he otherwise would have had to. (Remember children, it’s nice to be nice.)
I could spend this post talking about how we had more snow (It really needs to stop. It’s March already!), or how I got to go on a wonderful adventure to the grocery store (that was really exciting!), or how I got to watch a whole episode of Jeopardy! without the state’s COVID-19 update interrupting. But, everyone’s been stuck inside, if they don’t want to get sick or get other people sick, and, everyone has their own version of those stories.
However, unlike many other people, this week I got to watch a squirrel jump 7.5 feet from a tree onto a bird feeder. Repeatedly. Attempts have been made to discourage the squirrel from its death-defying leaps. So far, the squirrel is still happily jumping.

Well, I did hear from my school in China saying that it should be opening soon and they were just waiting on official word from the local government on when they can have the students back. And, a couple hours later, China decided to close their borders to foreign nationals. So, where went that hope…
Maybe the next one will work out.
But, I’m not going to hold my breath just yet.
